Burmese Python: Invasive Species
The Burmese Python is a large snake from southeast Asia, and is now frequently found in southern Florida. Since 2002 over 2000 Burmese Pythons have been removed from the Everglades, and that is believed to only be a fraction of their population. These snakes are very harmful of the Everglades delicately balanced ecosystem. They feed on native birds, and even an alligator or two!
